The Daily School Bus: in line at McDonald's with Jobe

Jobe in his car seat as we pull into the McDonald's drive-through alongside this school bus. This was one hour ago, as we were leaving Wasilla to bring Jobe home and to leave Margie with him so she can babysit Lynx. Jobe had been so happy to be at grandma and grandpa's house and he was severely disappointed to wake up this morning and learn he had to leave already. I put his boots on him and he kicked them right off. Now that he is home, he is happy again.

School Bus of the Day: Between Kings Chapel and Metro Cafe

I am on my coffee break and this is today's "School Bus of the Day!" Damn! This is exciting! I snapped it at the intersection right by Metro Café with Kings Chapel on the other side of the street. I completely composed the post while I was in the drive-through line at Metro Cafe and that included hashtags. I wanted to read through it, so I didn't post it and then after I got my coffee, it was gone! Every now and then, Instagram will do this to me.

We drink coffee and speak of history

Matu and Eileen showed up at Abby's right after I placed my order. During spring and summer, I would see them here frequently and we would often eat together but now it had been quite a while. We spoke mostly of history, how the Native side of it has pretty much been neglected in the history books students are taught by. Matu noted how so many of the early explorers and others who came to the Arctic and whose exploits are remembered, survived only because his Iñupiat ancestors rescued and kept them alive. This, he lamented, is not written in the history books.

Without specifically trying to, he gave me what I believe to be a great idea as I go about trying to reconstruct this little history project I am putting together for the North Slope Borough School District. He also sought to bolster my confidence and to assure me that, however complicated it might seem at the moment, he knows I will get something good together in the end.

The Daily a School Bus: right off the bat

As I drive to Abby's for breakfast. You can see how much more light there is at 8 AM now than there was Friday when we were still on Daylight Savings Time. However, come late afternoon… and not only that but pretty soon it'll be just as dark as 8:00 as it was last week... and 9:00... and not all that light at 10:00.

The Daily School Bus: a dip into the archive

I drove to Metro Cafe and back, drove to Hatcher Pass and back and didn't see a school bus. I didn't really expect to. Schoolbuses tend to rest on Saturdays. But I've got plenty of school bus pictures left over from the time I began this school protest to the present. This particular Squarespace nightmare is now in its 42nd day. Here's a leftover school bus from yesterday.
