On the day that Nelson Mandela died I drove to Anchorage on icy roads through freezing rain to bring home my beloved

Note: I originally prepared this as the first post in new Squarespace 6 blog I had planned to launch at this same address, to include all the work I have done in this Squarespace 5 blog. But things went wrong. I have asked Squarespace to refund the money I spent on the new blog and am bringing my Squarespace blogging to a permanent end, save for the upcoming holiday post referenced above. I do not want this post to go to waste and so have transferred it from the new Squarespace 6 blog that now never will be to being an archive, at this same address. While much of what it says no longer applies, I leave it just as I prepared it for the new, canceled, blog"

This is the first post I am putting up in the new Squarespace 6 blog. At least, I hope I am putting it up. As regular readers know, I have been running a

This blog is about to drive off into unknown territory - could charge off a cliff and disappear for awhile

A bit earlier, I put together what will be my first Squarespace 6 blog post. Before I publish it it, I need to import this blog into that blog so that they become the same blog. I also need to switch my blog address, logbookwasilla.com, from this blog to the new Squarespace 6 blog - once this blog is imported to it. Before doing this, I had a number of questions I had posed as long as 34 hours ago to the Squarespace tech assigned to help me . Finally, after 33 hours, he answered the questions. He knows his stuff and the appearance problem that had so baffled me all this time was solved instantly.

The big questions and fears I had regarding the import of this blog to the new blog were answered. Once that import is complete and I switch the domain from here to there, this blog will disappear for a time before the new one comes up - perhaps as long as 72 hours, but likely and hopefully for a much shorter period of time.

I now have a new problem. I have tried five times to begin the import process and five times it has failed within a few seconds. I have been very deliberate to enter my information correctly. Once again, everything is stalled for the moment.

I have sent a request to Squarespace for help. Hopefully, I will hear back from them soon. Hopefully, it will not take 33 hours to get a response this time.

A little joke, told by Jack Frost

The Daily Truck: I jokes! I'm not going to start a daily truck series. I came upon this one as I was stopping for a red light in Wasilla. I am in my driveway now. My lack of sleep last night has hit me like a wall falling upon me and I can hardly move to get out of the car. Funny, it is 20°. In a normal year, we wouldn't think anything about 20° right now. We would have had at least some subzero temperatures by now. But this morning, when Margie, Jobe and I got into the car, it felt downright chilly.

Text added at 10:33 AM. The Squarespace nightmare continues - day 46 and counting.

Outside trucks inside trucks and one hand not quite on the wheel (Update, 11:39 AM: single picture post altered to become "Three Studies of Kalib at Abby's")

Kalib and I are at Abby's. Yes there have been trains rolling about the house since he arrived, but here are at Abby's there are trucks. Inside trucks outside trucks.

Perhaps it is a foolish quest, I am going to try to post this from here. Well, the text will post. Will have to see about the picture. There will be a school bus later today.*

Sent from my iPhone

*Yes, Squarespace did strip the picture and I am only now - two hours later - finally able to add it back in. In the meantime, this sat here as a picture less post. An interesting thing did happen, though. I expain below, under what will now be the third picture in this post.

Well, all those Mormon church leaders who raised me and my extended family members who remain faithful would or will be horrified to see this. "What kind of example are you setting for your young grandson?!" I can hear them exclaim.

I am content with it The coffee is good. My day begins better because of it.

Ok. This is what happened. I took this last two pictures after I had attempted to post the first picture remotely from Abby's but failed after the Squarespace app stripped it out of the picture. I then decided not to bother trying to post these last two from Abby's but just to email them to myself and combine them with the first in one post which would then become "Three Studies of Kalib at Abby's."

When I post remotely, I cannot post more than one picture at a time, whether I use the app or the mail workaround, but of course when I sit down at my computer I can put as many pictures in a post as I desire.

Interestingly, when I first tried to email this bottom picture to myself, I somehow inadvertantly used the address Squarespace gave me to do the email workaround. I did not realize I had done this. All I knew was the picture I had emailed to myself was not showing up. So I tried again. Again, it did not show up.

Then, when I got to this computer and opened up Logbook I was surprised to see two posts I had not intended to put. Both were of this picture standing completely alone. No text. Not a single word.

This causes me to wonder if maybe the Squarespace failing is that, most often, is less that it strips the picture out, but that it cannot properly handle both picture and text together, but handle either one alone. So, as a test, I will post my Daily School Bus this afternoon from Metro Cafe. It will be a wordless post. Picture only, but I will try a headline.

Then I will see if it successfully posts the picture, and add words in later.

One shot enroute

On the drive to Anchorage...
