In the morning I look at Pioneer Peak, and then late tonight at Waikiki; I don't believe it

So here I was Thursday morning at 11:30 AM, sitting in the Ford Escape with Margie waiting for the light at Lucille and Parks Highway to change from red to green, so I could turn left, towards Hawaii. I had an intellectual knowledge that we were headed to Hawaii, but I did not really believe it.

Hawaii? I am used to going most anyplace, be it India, Greenland, Russia, anywhere in Alaska, US, Canada, Britain, Denmark, Mexico or whatever, and it never suprises me - but Hawaii? Alaska's sister state? Where it seems like everybody else in Alaska goes to visit all the time except for me and Margie? Hawaii, where I have always wanted to visit since I was a child and then especially when I was a teenage surfer, but never managed to make it?

Hawaii? No. I knew we were headed there, but I still didn't believe it.

And then, very late in the same day, about 11:PM Hawaii time, Margie and I stepped onto a dark beach. The froth from a dying wall of surf rushed up the sand. I bent down and put my hand in it. It was not cold. It was warm.

Then I saw this couple making memories on the beach at Waikiki.

Waikiki. That's in Hawaii. We are really here.

Hawaii!

I still don't believe it.

Lisa and Bryce are here, too.

The others will come later.

Aloha! Enjoy and soak that sun up as long as you can. The hard part is leaving and going back to the cold. Eat some pineapple for me!
